Share: Chase Elliott came up one position short of winning his first career Sprint Cup Series race. Elliott had the lead in Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 when the final restart of the day came with nine laps to go. It was a similar situation to the one Elliott was in at Michigan back in June with the same result. Two months ago, Elliott spun his tires allowing Joey Logano to take the lead and go on to win. On Sunday, Elliott did the same thing this time giving Kyle Larson a chance to slip by for the top spot and take the victory. “Just made another mistake,’’ Elliott said afterward. “Had two opportunities to get out front there and kind of control the race and let Kyle get a better start on me.
