Geltz returns to Rays with new confidence

HOUSTON — Steve Geltz returned to the Rays Sunday morning to give the team’s depleted bullpen a boost.
Geltz was recalled from Triple-A Durham and in a corresponding move, outfielder Mikie Mahtook was optioned to Durham.
“Our bullpen was taxed, to say the least,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “And unfortunately when you do that, somebody has to go. … It will be good for Mikie to get some consistent ABs leading into the end of the season for Durham. We’ll see him back up here. And Geltzy, I haven’t seen him in a while, but by all reports, he’s been throwing the ball well.”
Geltz began the season with the Rays and went 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA. The right-hander allowed 10 home runs in 20 innings over 21 appearances. This will be his third stint with the Rays this season. He is 0-2 with a 3.31 ERA with three …
