Belt hopes to return quickly from neck stiffness

SAN FRANCISCO — Brandon Belt was scratched from the Giants’ starting lineup Saturday because of neck stiffness. The first baseman pinch-hit during the club’s 3-1 loss to the Braves, but said he isn’t sure what his status is moving forward.
Belt said his neck “locked up” on him Thursday night when he turned over in his sleep. He felt good enough to play through the pain Friday and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. But Belt said he couldn’t even take a full swing while warming up Saturday.
