Condit (30-10, 7-6 UFC) conceded defeat 1:52 into round one, as he was submitted for the first time in more than a decade. Maia (24-6, 18-6 UFC) delivered a takedown inside the first 40 seconds, calmly advanced his position and worked his way to the Albuquerque, New Mexico, native’s back. From there, he snaked his arms in place, tightened his squeeze and waited for the tapout. Condit reluctantly obliged. The win was Maia’s 18th inside the Octagon, tying him with Matt Hughes and Donald Cerrone for third on the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s all-time list.
