Phegley hospitalized with synovitis in knee

ST. LOUIS — A’s catcher Josh Phegley is resting comfortably in a Bay Area hospital after receiving treatment for synovitis in his right knee.
Phegley was admitted to a hospital in San Francisco on Friday night and was administered IV antibiotics to treat the synovitis, which is an inflammatory disease within the membrane that lines the knee joint.
The A’s are awaiting further information to determine the next step for Phegley, who was originally scheduled to begin a Minor League rehab assignment on Saturday.
Phegley, 28, underwent surgery July 5 to remove a cruciate ligament cyst from the same knee.
