Murray’s US Open route

Andy Murray has set his sights on another Grand Slam title at the US Open and we have plotted a possible route to the final at Flushing Meadows.
The British No 1 was crowned Wimbledon champion for a second time this summer and then added a second gold medal at the Rio Olympics to continue a hugely successful year for the Scot.
Up next for Murray is the New York tournament, scene of his first major title triumph in 2012, and the world No 2 will fancy his chances in the absence of the injured Roger Federer, and with defending Novak Djokovic showing a few signs of weakness.
But who are Murray’s likely opponents as he advances through the draw in New York?
First round, Lukas Rosol
Murray has won both of his previous matches against the experienced Czech, but should approach his opening match with caution.
Rosol has sprung a few early shocks before, with his most famous upset win coming against Rafa Nadal at Wimbledon in 2012.
He has taken the opening set in each of his matches with Murray and the Scotsman cannot afford a sluggish start.
Second round, Juan Monaco or Marcel Granollers
Monaco should be sick of the sight of Murray as he was brushed aside in straight sets, both in Rio and Cincinnati this month.
Murray has won five of their past seven encounters and the Argentine’s only two wins came on clay.
