Robson edges closer to US Open

Laura Robson is just one win away from the main draw of the US Open after recording a straight sets victory over Isabella Shinikova in the second round of qualifying for Flushing Meadows.
Robson overcame her Bulgarian opponent 6-4 6-4 to record her seventh successive victory ahead of the final major of the year.
The 22-year-old, who is now ranked 247th in the world, showed glimpses of her best against Shinikova, as she continues to rebuild her career after losing almost two years to injury.
“I feel really healthy, quite fit, today was a long day as well as yesterday but I’ve dealt with it well,” Robson said.
