Bautista activated from DL, leading off for Jays

TORONTO — Jose Bautista came off the 15-day disabled list and made his return to the Blue Jays’ lineup — batting leadoff at designated hitter — in Thursday’s game against the Angels.
Infieler Ryan Goins was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
Bautista had been out since Aug. 9 when he twisted his left knee while attempting to make a throw to the infield during a game against the Rays. He initially remained in that game, but the swelling became more severe overnight and required a stint on the DL.
The veteran slugger participated in a simulated game at the club’s Minor League complex in Dunedin, Fla., on Wednesday morning and received clearance to make his return for the series finale against Los Angeles.
“That’s really all he needed,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of the simulated game.
Toronto is expected to keep a close eye on Bautista’s workload, at least for the first couple of weeks upon his return. Bautista likely will get a lot of starts at DH while the …
