After sim game, Bautista ready to return

TORONTO — Jose Bautista will come off the 15-day disabled list and make his return to the Blue Jays’ lineup for Thursday’s game against the Angels.
Bautista has been out since Aug. 9 when he twisted his left knee while attempting to make a throw to the infield during a game against the Rays. He initially remained in that game, but the swelling became more severe overnight and required a stint on the DL.
The veteran slugger participated in a simulated game at the club’s Minor League complex in Dunedin, Fla., on Wednesday morning and received clearance to make his return for the series finale against Los Angeles.
“That’s really all he needed,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of the simulated game.
Toronto is expected to keep a close eye on Bautista’s workload, at least for the first couple of weeks upon his return. Bautista likely will get a lot of starts at designated hitter while the Blue Jays go with an outfield of Melvin Upton Jr., Kevin Pillar and …
