Phegley to begin rehab assignment on Saturday

OAKLAND — A’s catcher Josh Phegley will begin a rehab assignment on Saturday with Triple-A Nashville, one of several injured members of the Oakland roster reaching a new step in their recovery process.
Phegley will serve as the designated hitter on Saturday and catch on Monday, according to A’s manager Bob Melvin. He underwent surgery to remove a cyst in his right knee in early July, and after several weeks of recovery which included a brief setback this weekend after coming down with strep throat, will finally return to the field.
Phegley follows the path of reliever Sean Doolittle, who began a rehab assignment with Nashville on Monday and will make another rehab outing on Friday.
