Lawrie back with White Sox, not ready for action

CHICAGO — Brett Lawrie was back in the White Sox clubhouse Tuesday but not ready to suit up for the team.
The second baseman returned from his rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham, testing a strained left hamstring that had him sidelined since July 22 after having to leave early from his last two games.
White Sox manager Robin Ventura didn’t have an update on Lawrie’s condition but didn’t feel he was done for the season.
“I wouldn’t think so. He’s still moving around and playing,” Ventura said. “I wouldn’t think so, but I’m not a doctor. I know he’ll get checked out and we’ll figure that out.”
Miguel Gonzalez, out since Aug. 12 with a right groin strain, threw off the mound Sunday and played catch from 120 feet Tuesday. The right-handed starter reported improvement and is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Wednesday.
