NASCAR Notebook: Open to Track Changes

NASCAR would consider following Bristol Motor Speedway’s lead of enhancing competition through track-surface modifications.
Bristol officials added more grip to the inside lane of the Tennessee half-mile for the recent tripleheader in hopes of creating better racing. Reviews were positive and it’s a concept that may find its way to other facilities.
Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, said during this week’s visit on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s “The Morning Drive” that he believes Bristol will “not be the last you’ve seen of that.”
O’Donnell said the sanctioning body would work with tracks and tire manufacturer Goodyear to find the right path.
“We’ll (show) due diligence, test it and work with Goodyear,” O’Donnell said, “for this year but more importantly, for 2017.”
