Zastryzny to get looks as setup for Chapman

SAN DIEGO — Newcomer Rob Zastryzny has impressed manager Joe Maddon so much in his two outings that the lefty is in the mix as one of the Cubs’ main setup relievers. Maddon has been testing different pitchers in that role since Pedro Strop and Hector Rondon went on the disabled list.
Travis Wood and Justin Grimm have also been in the mix to set up Aroldis Chapman. Strop will be sidelined until later in September after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair a torn meniscus, while Rondon (right tricep strain) is eligible to come off the disabled list Sept. 1.
“The attempt now is to win games while balancing out the bullpen and not to abuse your starters,” Maddon said. “Those guys are the thoroughbreds. If you don’t have those fellows, you ain’t doing nothing.”
