Brewers eye September return for Guerra

MILWAUKEE — The Brewers are asking Junior Guerra to be a bit more patient in his comeback from an elbow injury.
Guerra’s simulated game was pushed back 24 hours to Tuesday, not because of any setback related to his sore right elbow, but because it better fit a tentative schedule that now has Guerra making a rehabilitation start in the Minor Leagues before rejoining the Brewers after rosters expand in September. That progression, naturally, is contingent on Guerra passing each test.
For the player and the team, there is incentive to getting Guerra healthy for the final month. For the 31-year-old rookie himself, a series of late-season starts could help cement his status as a Major League starter, albeit a late-blooming one who pitched all over the world before gaining a foothold in affiliated baseball.
For the Brewers, it would provide additional assurance that his stellar performance before the elbow injury (2.93 ERA, 1.09 WHIP in 107 1/3 innings) was no …
