Arenado surpasses 100 RBIs in rout of Cubs

DENVER — Nolan Arenado said goodbye to his slump in style Sunday with two three-run homers as the Rockies clubbed the National League Central-leading Cubs, 11-4, on Sunday to win a three-game series at Coors Field.

Arenado entered 1-for-16 on the homestand — which the Rockies ended, 4-2, against two division leaders, the Nationals from the NL East and the Cubs.

The first Arenado homer landed just shy of the concourse above the left-field bleachers, and there went Cubs starter Jason Hammel’s 22-inning scoreless streak. Arenado’s second blast, also off Hammel, made it 10-0 and made the left-field concourse.

The homers allowed Arenado, who went 4-for-5 to tie a career high with four hits, to improve his homer total to 32 and surpass the Cubs’ Kris Bryant (31) for the NL lead while also improving his RBI total 104, assuring his second straight season of 30-plus homers and 100-plus RBIs.
