Blue Jays using caution with Donaldson

CLEVELAND — Josh Donaldson was held out of the Blue Jays’ lineup for the second consecutive game on Saturday night because of a jammed right thumb.
Toronto originally hoped to have Donaldson back in the lineup for Saturday’s game, but in the end, the club decided to take a cautious approach and have the reigning American League Most Valuable Player rest for an additional day.
Manager John Gibbons was asked if Donaldson would also sit out Sunday, which would give him a total of five days’ rest because of two off-days, but he insisted that would not be the case.
