EPL Results: Saturday’s Week 2 Scores, Updated 2016 Premier League Table

Just as everyone expected, Hull City’s title challenge remains on track following the Tigers’ 2-0 victory over Swansea City. Their win was one of the more surprising results in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Manchester United kicked off Matchday 2 with a 2-0 win Friday against Southampton, and another seven matches followed Saturday.

Below is a brief overview for some of the biggest clashes on the day.

Mike Phelan continues to make a strong case to transition from interim to full-time manager for Hull. While it won’t maintain its current pace, the club has far exceeded expectations early on with wins in its first two matches.

Phelan had a big hand in the victory. He brought Shaun Maloney on in the 73rd minute, and in the 79th minute, the 33-year-old midfielder broke the deadlock and put Hull in the lead. The club highlighted why Saturday’s result was so notable:

While Hull continue to defy their skeptics, Burnley provided Saturday’s biggest shock by far. Despite maintaining a little over 19 percent possession and getting two shots on target, the Clarets earned a 2-0 victory over Liverpool.
