Azam wins Tanzanian curtain raiser

For the first time, Azam won the traditional curtain raiser in Tanzanian football ‘Community Shield Cup’ after beating rivals Young Africans 4-1 via penalties on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam. An impressive second half performance by Azam saw them cancel out Yanga’s two-goal first half lead and force the game into penalties, where they triumphed and deny the latter a fourth win on the trot in the one-off match which heralds the new season. Yanga were on the path of victory only for a loss of concentration in the last quarter-hour to turn everything upside down as Azam leveled through Shomary Kapombe and John Bocco.
