Angels come up empty against Yanks’ Tanaka

ANAHEIM — Home runs came for the Yankees from both the top and bottom of the lineup, plus multiple places in between, as they shut out the Angels, 7-0, on Friday night at Angel Stadium to open a three-game series.
Jacoby Ellsbury got things going with a homer to right on the third pitch of the night from Angels starter Jered Weaver. Ninth-place hitter Ronald Torreyes led off the fifth with the first homer of his big league career, while No. 2 hitter Didi Gregorius and cleanup man Brian McCann also went deep against Weaver in the frame.
Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka earned the win, striking out nine without issuing a walk over 7 2/3 innings. He retired the first 11 batters he faced before allowing consecutive singles to Mike Trout and Albert Pujols in the fourth. Tanaka then recorded seven outs in a row before another Trout single leading off the seventh.
Weaver was charged with five runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. He was removed after the home run to McCann. Friday’s start marked the first time Weaver allowed four or more homers in a game since April …
