Yelich recreates 1st HR, makes key catch in win

PITTSBURGH — Career home run No. 34 for Christian Yelich was similar to the first time the Marlins’ outfielder circled the bases.
The difference from then to now was the outcome, because Yelich’s liner over the wall in left field on Friday night was a big blast in Miami’s 6-5 win over the Pirates at PNC Park.
Yelich has had some memorable moments at Pittsburgh and off hard-throwing right-hander Gerrit Cole. Yelich went opposite field on Cole in the seventh inning, at the time giving Miami a 3-2 edge.
The liner that kept going was reminiscent of Yelich’s first career homer, which also came against Cole at PNC Park. The date was Aug. 8, 2013, but on that day, Miami lost, 5-4, in 10 innings in a game Jose Fernandez started.
