Meyler backs Phelan as Hull boss

Mike Phelan is the ideal candidate to become the next permanent Hull City manager, according to Tigers midfielder David Meyler.
Meyler, 27, who joined Hull in 2013, wants caretaker manager Phelan to be given the job on a full-time basis after he stepped up following Steve Bruce’s departure.
The East Yorkshire club defied the odds beginning their campaign with a 2-1 home win over Leicester on the opening day, but off-field issues loom over any long-term ambitions.
Hull have gone another week without adding a player to their threadbare squad, after suffering serious injuries to four key players including skipper Michael Dawson, and Phelan’s future remains unclear.
