Martin’s Starting Stat

I’m heading to Southampton for their game against Manchester United on Friday night. I wonder how the Saints fans felt about five of their former players scoring in my first commentary game of the season between Arsenal and Liverpool? Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calum Chambers, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana were all on target and the home fans will hope two other former players – Luke Shaw and Morgan Schneiderlin – are not on target in front of the Sky Sports cameras this week.

Champions crash

Hi Martin. If Leicester lose v Arsenal this weekend would they be the first champions to lose their opening two matches? Stewart

MARTIN SAYS: When they lost to Hull, Leicester were the first champion side to lose their opening game since Arsenal in 1989/90. The Gunners lost 4-1 at Manchester United as champions – and I commentated on it for ITV – but I nearly didn’t because my daughter, Jenny, was due to be born on that day. Happily she arrived eight days earlier.
