As F1’s silly season rumbles on, PlanetF1 takes a look at who is in and who may be out for good…
Mercedes Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will remain Mercedes team-mates for a fourth year running as both are under contract until the end of 2018.
“It was never in doubt we wanted to stay with Nico, and I guess it was of interest for him to stay in the best current car,” Toto Wolff insisted in the wake of Rosberg’s recent re-signing.
Ferrari Despite speculation that Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari run had finally come to an end, the Scuderia opted to re-sign the Finn for a further season.
“Obviously I’m happy, that was always the aim and it makes life easier for us too, as we don’t have to keep answering the same questions,” the Finn said. “We can just put all the effort on the racing side now.
He will partner Sebastian Vettel, who still has one year to run on his current deal.
Red Bull Red Bull will retain Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen for 2017. Next season is the last on Ricciardo’s contract, while Red Bull have locked teenage sensation Verstappen into a long-term deal.
Williams The first of the top teams without a single driver confirmed for next season.
Valtteri Bottas has been linked to Renault with Williams believed to be looking at Sergio Perez.
In the other car, it appears as if Felipe Massa’s time at the Grove team – and perhaps in F1 – could be over with Jenson Button and test driver Alex Lynn knocking on that door.
