League Two: Luton stay top

A penalty from Cameron McGeehan deep into stoppage time kept 10-man Luton top of Sky Bet League Two with a dramatic 2-1 win over Newport at Kenilworth Road.

Hatters defender Johnny Mullins saw red for a second caution with six minutes left when the scores were level, Jennison Myrie-Williams (70) having cancelled out McGeehan’s earlier spot-kick (62).

However, in the fifth minute of added time, Darren Jones was adjudged to have fouled Pelly Ruddock in the box and McGeehan kept his cool to beat Joe Day again and secure all three points for the home side.

Colchester looked like they were set to lead the table after a 3-2 win over Grimsby at the Weston Homes Community Stadium with a double from Brennan Dickenson.

The Essex side, relegated from League One last season, took the lead after 10 minutes through Dickenson, a summer signing from Gillingham who opened his account in the weekend home win over Cambridge.

Kurtis Guthrie (34) doubled the lead before winger Dickenson (39) drilled in his second to put the U’s in command.
