Moniak, Stobbe among top prospect performers Monday

Two top prospects shined in a wild Triple-A contest in Indianapolis on Monday night. Reds No. 2 prospect Amir Garrett threw seven scoreless innings in Louisville’s 5-2 loss to Indianapolis. Garrett, baseball’s No. 52 overall prospect, gave up six hits while walking two and fanning five, lowering his ERA to 3.24 in nine games (eight starts) for Louisville this season.

With Indianapolis trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Pirates No. 14 prospect Alen Hanson hit a walk-off grand slam. Hanson went 3-for-5 on the night, and has hit safely in 14 of his past 15 games.

The rest of the best performances from top prospects on Monday:

• Phillies No. 2 prospect and No. 29 overall prospect Mickey Moniak continued his hot start with a 2-for-3 performance for Philadelphia’s Gulf Coast League rookie affiliate in a 4-0 win over the GCL Blue Jays. The top overall pick in this year’s Draft upped his batting average to .305 after 34 games.

• Padres No. 4 prospect and No. 100 overall prospect Josh Naylor went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore’s 8-7 win over Inland Empire. Since being traded from the Marlins to the Padres, Naylor is batting .304 with 17 RBIs in 16 games.

• Athletics No. 24 prospect Casey Meisner tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win in Class A Advanced Stockton’s 2-1 California League victory over Visalia. The right-hander surrendered just one hit, walked none and struck out six. The performance was a welcome sign for Meisner, who entered the game with a 4.17 ERA.
