Mariners bullpen continues to shine

ANAHEIM — Since flame-throwing rookie Edwin Diaz moved into the closer’s role on Aug. 2, the Mariners have reeled off a 10-2 record going into Monday’s series opener against the Angels.
Coincidence? Not when you consider Diaz is 6-for-6 in save opportunities and Seattle is 7-0 in the seven games he’s closed out, with the 22-year-old allowing just two hits and one run with one walk and 10 strikeouts in seven innings.
But Diaz isn’t the sole reason for the turnaround as the entire Mariners bullpen has been lights out since that switch was made and Seattle has taken advantage by roaring back into playoff contention.
In addition to Diaz, the Mariners have received a big boost from the acquisition of hard-throwing right-hander Arquimedes Caminero from the Pirates, the continued excellence of midseason addition Tom Wilhelmsen and the return to health of Nick Vincent.
It’s added up to a group that has the lowest bullpen ERA in the Majors in August at 1.32, with 31 strikeouts and seven walks in 41 innings while holding opponents to a .194 batting …
