Players of the Week

Player – OF Jose Pujols, Lakewood… Pujols, 20, batted .357 (10-28) with four doubles, two home runs, three RBI, four walks, four runs and a 1.152 OPS in seven games. He has hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games overall, recording multiple hits in six of them and raising his season average by 19 points. Pujols leads the South Atlantic League with 22 home runs, ranks second in RBI (74), third in total bases (194) and is tied for fourth in extra-base hits (44). The Dominican Republic native was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on July 2, 2012.

Pitcher – RHP Phil Klein, Lehigh Valley… The 27-year-old Klein made two starts for Lehigh Valley, combining to go 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA (1 ER, 13.0 IP), 0.62 WHIP (2 BB, 6 H), 21 strikeouts and a .136 opponents’ batting average. He set a career high with 10 strikeouts in just 5.0 innings on August 9, only to set a new career high one start later when he recorded 11 strikeouts over 8.0 shutout innings. He has a 1.64 ERA (7 ER, 38.1 IP) with 46 strikeouts in Lehigh Valley this season. Klein, who was also named International League Pitcher of the Week, was selected off waivers by the Phillies from Texas on June 19, 2016.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – International League North Division…72-49, 2nd place… The IronPigs lost the first two games of each of their series last week, and won each of the two series finales. Despite the 2-4 week, Lehigh Valley holds a 5.5-game lead in the wild card standings.

Top hitting performers – OF Cam Perkins batted .316 (6-19) with a home run, four RBI and two walks in six games… 1B Brock Stassi was 4-for-11 (.364) with a home run, RBI and two walks.

Top pitching performers – RHP Phil Klein went 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA (1 ER, 13.0 IP), 0.62 WHIP (2 BB, 6 H) and 21 strikeouts in his two starts, earning him both Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week and International League Pitcher of the Week… RHP Frank Herrmann pitched in two games in relief, combining to toss 3.0 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed and five strikeouts… RHP Nick Pivetta made his triple-A debut on August 13, holding Indianapolis to one run on three hits over 5.0 innings of work.

Reading Fightin Phils – Eastern League Eastern Division …78-41, 1st place… Reading won the first and last games of their week, but dropped the middle three to finish 2-3. The Fightins will play three games at home this week against Richmond before embarking on a seven-game road trip.

Top hitting performers – OF Dylan Cozens batted .333 (6-18) with two doubles, a home run, two RBI, two walks and a stolen base. He now has 70 extra-base hits this season… OF Andrew Pullin doubled, drove in four runs and walked once while …
