Diego Costa ensured Antonio Conte enjoyed a winning start as new Chelsea manager by scoring late to help the Blues beat West Ham United 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Monday. Costa’s quality effort cancelled out James Collins’ excellent equaliser for the Hammers, who had fallen behind to an Eden Hazard penalty.
Three points for Chelsea has put them third behind Manchester United and Liverpool and also wrapped up an eventful first week of the new Premier League season. It featured wins for Jose Mourinho’s United and Pep Guardiola in his debut with Manchester City.
However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is once again feeling the pressure after losing a seven-goal thriller to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
