Gonzalez on MLB Pipeline’s Prospect Team of the Week

MLBPipeline.com’s Prospect Team of the Week honors the best performances from the previous seven days. Any player currently on an organization Top 30 Prospects list on our Prospect Watch is eligible, including big leaguers.

The latest edition of MLBPipeline.com’s Prospect Team of the Week (Aug. 8 – 14) is loaded with familiar names. There are four players making their third appearance on PTOW, and two more making their fourth. There are two prospects who had loud introductions for their new clubs after changing organizations prior to the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline. There are even three hitters who rank among the Minor League leaders in home runs.

Here’s our complete Prospect Team of the Week:

C: Raudy Read, Potomac Nationals (Class A Advanced) (Nationals No. 29 prospect)5 G, .435/.480/.826, 5 R, 3 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBIs, 2 BB, 1 IBB, 2 K

Read hit safely in all six games for Class A Advanced Potomac, finishing the week with 10 hits. He notched half of those hits in the P-Nats’ 13-inning loss against Frederick on Friday, when he went 5-for-7 with a pair of home runs — highlighted by a game-tying solo shot in the top of the ninth — as well as a double and three RBIs. After a slow first half, Read, 22, has hit .277/.333/.468 in 37 games since the All-Star break.

1B: Jake Bauers, Montgomery Biscuits (Double-A)(Rays No. 3 prospect)5 G, .375/.583/.938, 7 R, 3 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBIs, 7 BB, 1 K, 1 SB

After getting his first taste of Double-A in 2015 at age 19, Bauers, No. 84 overall on the Top 100, has continued to elevate his stock this year in his return to the Southern League, especially in terms of his power. By going deep twice last week for Montgomery, the 20-year-old first baseman/outfielder already has set a new career-high this season with 13 home runs. On top of that, Bauers also has produced a .284/.373/.437 slash line with 10 steals and 60 walks against 75 strikeouts through 114 games.

2B: Travis Demeritte, Carolina Mudcats (Class A Advanced) (Braves No. 9 prospect)6 G, .412/.655/1.000, 7 R, 2 3B, 2 HR, 3 RBIs, 12 BB, 7 K, 2 SB

Demeritte began his Braves career slowly as he batted .132 in his first 10 games for Class A Advanced Carolina after coming over from the Rangers in the Lucas Harrell-Dario Alvarez trade on July 29.
