Crowley sets sights on title

News from Monday’s card at Chelmsford where Jim Crowley was among the winners as he pursues the jockeys’ title.

Jim Crowley reaffirmed his intention to give this year’s Stobart Flat Jockeys Championship his best shot after closing the gap on Silvestre de Sousa at Chelmsford.

Reigning champion De Sousa remains in pole position to defend his crown having ridden 68 winners since the start of the season prior to Windsor’s meeting on Monday evening.

James Doyle, Ryan Moore and Adam Kirby are all within a dozen winners of that total, but leading the chasing pack is Crowley, who took his tally to 60 aboard Bee Case in Chelmsford’s Jools Holland Here On Saturday Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Hugo Palmer’s youngster had shaped with plenty of promise on her first two starts at Kempton and Windsor and was a 4/1 shot to open her account at the third time of asking.

The daughter of Showcasing raced on the speed throughout and passed the post with two and a quarter lengths in hand.

Crowley said: “She ran very well first time out ran another nice race at Windsor, probably just bumping into an above-average horse (Bahamadam).

“She’s enjoyed the surface today and broke very professionally.

“She was in the right place and galloped out nicely.”

Crowley revealed he has given up rides at this week’s Ebor Festival at York to instead pursue winners at some of the lesser meetings.
