Shaun Marsh and Steven Smith both registered centuries on a productive third morning for Australia in Colombo, where they added 94 to their overnight total without the loss of a wicket. The series might be decided and the Warne-Muralitharan Trophy ready for presentation to Sri Lanka, but Smith and Marsh have at least reduced the chances of a whitewash by pushing Australia to 235 for 1 at lunch, trailing by 120 runs.
Marsh went to the break on 110 and Smith was on 104, and their partnership had reached 214 runs. It was just the second time in the past decade that an Australian pair had produced a double-century partnership in Asia and the other occasion also featured Marsh: on debut against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in 2011 he had put on 258 with Michael Hussey for the fourth wicket.
