Smith scratched with right foot contusion

OAKLAND — Mariners outfielder Seth Smith was a late scratch from Sunday’s lineup, unable to start after suffering a foot contusion in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game.
Smith fouled a pitch off his right foot during a 10-pitch at-bat against A’s reliever John Axford. Smith needed time to gather himself, limping into foul territory, but remained in the game to finish the at-bat. He was removed from right field in the bottom of the seventh in favor of Shawn O’Malley.
Mariners manager Scott Servais expected Smith, who was scheduled to be the designated hitter to be able to start when he met with reporters Sunday morning, but Smith was scratched a short while later. Dae-Ho Lee replaced Smith at DH and batted sixth, while third baseman Kyle Seager moved up to the two-spot in the lineup.
Lee is hitting .105 in his last 15 games with one homer. Nelson Cruz started in right field for Seattle.
