Teoscar up as Astros make series of moves

TORONTO — The Astros made a series of roster moves and updated the status of several of their injured players prior to Friday’s opener against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced that the team has selected the contract of outfield prospect Teoscar Hernandez from Triple-A Fresno and placed outfielder Preston Tucker on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. The Astros also activated right-handed reliever Luke Gregerson from the 15-day DL, while closer Ken Giles was placed on the paternity list and did not make the trip to Toronto.
Rated as the Astros’ No. 12 prospect by MLBPipeline.com, the 23-year-old Hernandez joins an already-talented young core, becoming the eighth member of the roster under 25 years old. After a disappointing 2015 campaign, Hernandez has hit .307 with 10 home runs and 53 RBIs in 107 games between Double- and Triple-A this season, and he gives the Astros positional flexibility at all three outfield spots. Hernandez made his Major League debut batting eighth and playing center field on Friday.
