RIO DE JANEIRO (VN) — By the roar of the crowd you’d think we’re back in London.
It took 3500 meters for Great Britain to draw level with the Australian men’s team pursuit team, another 250 to pass them, and then 250 more to seal the deal. The British-heavy crowd in Rio thundered as their team edged toward the nation’s second gold medal in as many days.
The British team of Ed Clancy, Steven Burke, Owain Doull, and Bradley Wiggins was 0.743 seconds faster than a surprisingly quick Australia after four kilometers. It was Wiggins’ eighth Olympic medal and his fifth gold, and came a day after his British teammates snagged gold in the men’s team sprint and qualified fastest in the women’s team pursuit.
A new world record in the women’s team sprint and the first rounds of match sprints rounded out a spectacular evening of track racing.
China’s women break their own team sprint record en route to gold
China won the women’s track cycling team sprint gold in Rio on Friday after earlier setting a new world record.
