Holliday fractures right thumb, headed to DL

CHICAGO — Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday was knocked out of a tie game in the 10th inning of Thursday’s 4-3, 11-inning loss after a 94-mph pitch from Cubs reliever Mike Montgomery clipped his right hand.
Holliday keeled over immediately and appeared to have trouble flexing all of his fingers when asked to by the team’s athletic trainer. He was promptly replaced by pinch-runner Jeremy Hazelbaker and taken for X-rays, which showed a fractured right thumb. The Cards announced after the game that …
