Gee among Royals’ starting options Saturday

KANSAS CITY — After right-hander Dillon Gee posted his first quality start of the season, it seemed as though the Royals might finally have some consistency at the No. 5 spot in the rotation. Instead, Gee was called on to pitch the final two innings of Wednesday night’s 3-2 walk-off win in 14 innings against the White Sox, which put his scheduled start on Saturday in jeopardy.
“It would’ve been perfect if he had just thrown one,” manager Ned Yost said. “Makes it a little bit more murky.”
As for Saturday’s starter, Yost said he isn’t ruling anyone out. He has a couple of guys in mind, but that Gee isn’t necessarily out of the mix either.
“He was supposed to throw a [side session] today,” Yost said. “Last night was a little more effort than he would’ve thrown in a side, but depending on how he feels, he still might be ready to go.”
As for Gee, he felt that he could still go on Saturday if needed. He noted his last start had come on Friday against the Blue Jays and he was fully stretched …
