Betts day to day with right calf tightness

BOSTON — Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts left Wednesday night’s 9-4 loss to the Yankees in the seventh inning with stiffness in his right calf and is day to day, although manager John Farrell said a start for Betts in Thursday night’s series finale was “doubtful.”
Betts, who was removed as a precaution but experienced knee fluid in the same leg a few weeks ago, said his calf felt tight when he woke up on Wednesday.
“It was just kind of going on all day,” said Betts, who was scheduled to be re-evaluated on Thursday morning. “I had a little stiffness, and it gradually got a little worse.”
