Gomez designated for assignment by Astros

The Astros have designated center fielder Carlos Gomez for assignment, general manager Jeff Luhnow announced on Wednesday.
Gomez, who was acquired from the Brewers before last year’s non-waiver Trade Deadline, has had a rocky tenure in Houston. This season, in 85 games, the 30-year-old was batting .210 with five home runs, 29 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.
“It’s not a secret that I’m not doing my job, and I’m really disappointed in myself,” Gomez told MLB.com on Wednesday.
