Fifth place finish for GB women’s gymnastics team in Rio

Team GB women’s gymnastics team have finished 5th in the Olympic team final in Rio.
The team of Ellie Downie, Becky Downie, Amy Tinkler, Ruby Harrold and Claudia Fragapane finished with a team total of 174.362 to finish in 5th behind the USA who comfortably took the gold with 184.897, Russia silver (176.688), China Bronze (176.003) and Japan 4th (174.371).
Great Britain started off the competition on the bars with three clean routines, including a strong performance from Becky who scored a world class 15.400. Moving onto the beam, GB unfortunately had to count a fall with Ellie coming off early on whilst performing her extremely difficult standing Arabian somersault. They fought back however with Becky and Claudia performing clean routines to keep GB in the hunt. On to the floor the girls pulled back some vital marks with powerful tumbling from Amy, Ellie and Claudia and three scores into the 14’s. The girls then finished with some impressive vaulting with a huge 15.133 from Ellie, however it was not enough to make the podium this time around. It was a fantastic …
