Swimmer Adam Peaty goes for gold on day two of the Olympics with Britain hoping for its first medal of the Rio Games.
Peaty, 21, is in the 100m breaststroke final at 02:53 BST on Monday as he bids to become the first man to win a GB gold in the pool for 28 years.
Earlier, Lizzie Armitstead was fifth in the women’s road race won by Anna van der Breggen after leader Annemiek van Vleuten suffered a horrific crash.
Andy and Jamie Murray were beaten in the men’s tennis doubles first round.
Fencing took centre stage as Richard Kruse eyed Britain’s first Olympic medal in 52 years, but he lost to Russian Timur Safin as they fought for bronze in the men’s foil.
And there was a major shock in the tennis competition as three-time champions Serena and Venus Williams suffered their first defeat in Olympic doubles.

Leader crashes in women’s road race The Dutch rider was leading the race but came off her bike at a sharp turn in the road
Dutch rider Van Vleuten, 33, has severe concussion and three small fractures in her lower back after a crash in the road race.
She had pulled clear with 10km to go, but came off her bike on a sharp turn while travelling at speed down the Vista Chinesa descent.
She lay motionless while help arrived and there was widespread concern for her well-being.
Cycling’s governing body, the International Cycling Union, said she “continues to be under examination” but has “no serious medical problem”.
Gold medallist Van der Breggen said of her compatriot: “I was really shocked when I saw the crash and it didn’t look good but I had to focus and keep on with the race.”
