CHICAGO — Sunday’s game belonged to Manny Machado.

Machado homered in each of the first three innings and drove in a career-high seven runs in Baltimore’s 10-2 win over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. The victory, coupled with Toronto’s loss, gives the O’s sole possession of first place in the American League East by one game.

The Orioles unloaded on White Sox starter James Shields, as Machado’s first two homers helped chase the righty after just four outs. J.J. Hardy and Chris Davis also went deep, with Davis’ blast following Machado’s second one to complete a back-to-back effort.

Machado’s home run off Matt Albers in the third made him the first Orioles batter since Davis in 2014 to turn in a three-homer game. Machado now has 25 homers on the season and eight career multihomer games.
