Astros place Rasmus on DL with ear issue

HOUSTON — The Astros on Sunday placed outfielder Colby Rasmus on the 15-day disabled list because of a right ear issue that’s plagued him for about a month. The club also recalled infielder Tony Kemp from Triple-A Fresno in time for the series finale against the Rangers.
“We determined we need to get this ear thing checked out further,” Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. “He’s not feeling very well, and it’s been bothering him for a while.”
Rasmus has been mired in a 3-for-66 slump since July 2 and told reporters a few weeks ago he has been dealing with cholesteatoma, a growth of skin cells occurring behind the eardrum that causes damage. The Astros …
