Yafai starts Rio 2016 boxing

Galal Yafai will kick-off Team GB’s hopes in the opening boxing match of Rio 2016 on Saturday.
The light-flyweight from Birmingham will take on Africa Olympic gold medalist, Fotsala Simplice of Cameroon, at the venue for all fights, Riocentro – Pavilion 6.
Yafai, whose fight will start at 3pm, leads the way for a strong Team GB boxing team, with teammates Joe Cordina and Lawrence Okolie in action in the evening session.
Cordina, the only Welsh fighter in the team of 12, takes on Charly Suarez, who will manage to do one thing Manny Pacquiao didn’t and represent the Philippines in the Olympics. He didn’t win the Asia and Oceanic qualification tournament out right but stopped his opponent in the semi-finals.
Okolie will take on Igor Jakubowski of Poland in the second heavyweight fight of the tournament this evening. The Londoner has only had 25 amateur fights before Rio but could become Great Britain’s first Olympic gold medalist at 91kg …
