Big Papi slated to play first base vs. Dodgers

LOS ANGELES — Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz will start at first base for the first time this season Saturday against the Dodgers and right-hander Ross Stripling. It’s his first start at the position since Aug. 30 against the Mets.
After the team went back and forth on whether he’d play first during the series, Red Sox manager John Farrell said he had ongoing conversations with Ortiz over the past few days before making the final decision.
“He feels good physically and the medical staff felt like he was in very good condition as far as getting on the field tomorrow,” Farrell said before Friday’s series opener at Dodger Stadium.
