Sergio Cabrera, Pedro Madeira, Patrick Leonard, Emil Olsson, & Peter Turmezey Win Big at 888poker in July
- Updated: August 5, 2016
Sundays are the biggest day of the week at the world’s second largest real-money online poker network 888poker. Many of the regularly scheduled tournaments feature bigger guaranteed prize pools compared to what takes place during the week. To make things even better, each Sunday features a handful of special added tournaments including the Mega Deep and the Sunday Challenge each weekend, plus the Whale and the Baby Whale on alternating Sundays.
During the early part of July, many of the guaranteed prize pools were lowered as this is slow time of the year for online poker players. With a lot of the big names heading to poker’s center stage in Las Vegas to compete in the World Series of Poker, and many recreational players choosing to enjoy the summer weather – the tournaments were a bit smaller. Canada’s “birdgamecray” shipped the single biggest prize at 888poker in July after he took down the Whale on July 24 for a healthy score of $30,503. Big names on the final table in this included Spanish poker player living in the United Kingdom Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera (2nd – $22,374), Canada’s Shyam “Sdot111” Srinivasan (6th – $6,712), and Brazil’s Leonardo “narizinhodzi” Alcantara (8th – $3,729).
Cabrera added to his big month at 888poker when the following Sunday on July 31 he took fourth place in the Sunday Challenge for $7,569.
Brazil’s Pedro “gusma” Madeira took down the other Whale during the month on July 10 after outlasting a star-studded final table to bank $21,500. Also on the final table were Sweden’s Simon “Isildur1337x” Mattsson (5th – $6,000), the PocketFives current top ranked online poker tournament player in the world Jonathan “chut_up” Van Fleet (6th – $5,000), American poker refugee residing in …
