Rodgers calls for fans’ trust

Brendan Rodgers called for Celtic fans to trust his players after Moussa Dembele’s stoppage-time penalty against FC Astana took them into the Champions League play-off round.
Leigh Griffiths’ first-half penalty – also in stoppage-time – was cancelled out by Agim Ibraimi before Dembele struck from the spot late on to secure a 2-1 win and 3-2 aggregate victory.
Rodgers can now look forward to the draw on Friday and he praised supporters for the atmosphere they generated at Parkhead but called for patience and trust after admitting the players were “on edge” at times during the match.
“The supporters were unbelievable for us but the only thing I can say is that they need to show a little bit of patience as well,” he said. “I am a Celtic supporter, I know what they want and I know how desperately they want it but they put the players on edge at times tonight.
“In modern football, European football, domestic football, teams are organised. So if you can’t play forward and you can’t play sideways, you have to come back. But when you come back, you shouldn’t be on edge because you come back.
