Sanchez, Yanks’ No. 5 prospect, called up

NEW YORK — Following their flurry of non-waiver Trade Deadline transactions, the Yankees suddenly have room on their roster for some of their intriguing young position player prospects. The club promoted one of those — catcher Gary Sanchez — in time for Wednesday’s game against the Mets at Yankee Stadium.
“We’ve talked about it. We’ve talked about him being a player for us and being in the organization,” manager Joe Girardi said after the Yankees’ 7-1 loss on Tuesday.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman had told reporters earlier in the week that Sanchez, the club’s No. 5 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, could be promoted as early as Wednesday. With the Mets …
