Quench Dolly toys with rivals

A review of Wednesday’s meeting at Brighton as Quench Dolly won for John Gallagher.
The form of Queen Mary Stakes winner Lady Aurelia was given a boost of sorts after Quench Dolly made virtually all of the running to take the Thames Valley Nursery Handicap at Brighton.
While no match for Wesley Ward’s flying machine at Royal Ascot, the John Gallagher-trained two-year-old then fluffed her lines at Bath after she missed the break.
But after having made no mistake from the stalls on this occasion, the 2-1 shot was not for passing and crossed the line a length and a half clear of Lightoller.
Gallagher said: “I was less nervous at Royal Ascot as I nearly pulled her out (on Tuesday night) because of the rain.
“When she won at Goodwood (on debut) it was on the easy side of good and most of our horses run well round here.
“She missed the break by two lengths (at Bath) and she was never going to get there, but she showed up for a long way at Royal Ascot, while she didn’t do anything wrong at Goodwood.
“It is a family we know well. They are all quite quick.
“I worked her with an 83-rated horse on Friday and that could not get near her, so we were quite confident.”
