Tilson’s big league debut ends in injury, trip to DL

DETROIT — Charlie Tilson’s Major League debut began on a high note Tuesday at Comerica Park, where he picked up a single in his first career at-bat. It then ended on a sour note when he left in the fifth inning after sustaining a strained left hamstring while chasing down a fly ball off the bat of the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera deep in the right-center-field gap.
Tilson appeared to roll his ankle, which sent him down to the ground before he could reach the ball. White Sox manager Robin Ventura said after the team’s 11-5 loss that Tilson initially complained about his hamstring, and the rookie was placed on the DL on Wednesday with a strained left hamstring.
Tilson was replaced on the active roster by outfielder J.B. Shuck, who was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.
