Offensive onslaught continues for Detroit Tigers in win over White Sox

DETROIT — In the hours before Tuesday’s rout, Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera glanced up at the television blaring inside the clubhouse and the commotion his teammates were making. They knew what was coming.
A replay from the last time the Tigers and Chicago White Sox clashed was showing the exact moment when the 33-year-old slugger took James Shields deep in the fifth inning less than two weeks ago. Looking back at the replay, the former Triple Crown winner couldn’t help but muster a grin.
This time it was White Sox reliever Matt Albers on the receiving end, as Cabrera punctuated an 11-5 win over the White Sox at Comerica Park with his two-run shot in the sixth inning. It was an extra gut punch to the White Sox, who saw Shields chased from the game after a disastrous fifth inning in which the Tigers scraped him for six runs. It ended up an exclamation point on what has become a seven-game winning streak for Detroit.
“Last week he was washed up, wasn’t he?” manager Brad Ausmus said sarcastically when asked about Cabrera’s resurgence.
